Rocky Road Racing Heads to the Rocky Roads of Maine

Shillington, PA - The Rocky Road Racing team takes their Steve Moyer Subaru, KAM Specialties sponsored 1996 Subaru Impreza to Maine this weekend to compete against 95 other teams in the Maine Forest Rally. The team is hoping for a better result than last year, where they lost several minutes having to stop repeatedly due to a car fire in another competitor's car on Special Stage 3.

Traditionally, the Friday stages are very rough, with rocks the size of grapefruits lurking in the road just waiting to end someone's rally. Team owner and driver Don Kennedy explained that his strategy usually is to try to take it easy on Friday, then start pushing on Saturday once the roads smooth out a bit. “But this year, I'm going to start pushing from the beginning and let the DMS suspension do its job. I'm more concerned about popping a bead and getting a flat.”

“The car really takes a pounding at this event” added crew chief Keith Kennedy. “We always have all of our rims and tires ready to go, because we never know how many we may have to change.” The team is hoping that it got all of it's bad luck with flat tires out of the way last year though, but plans on using it's “old” tires on Friday, just in case one or two get chewed up.

Matt will also be competing in the inaugural Maine Forest RallyCross on Sunday, using his daily driver 1991 Subaru Legacy. After competing in four different vehicles in as many events, Matt will be back in his own car attempting to stretch out his points lead in the Production 4WD class, and hoping to continue his streak of 2 class victories. “The last time I ran my car, back in January, I had trouble getting it to go into 2nd gear. Then, after STPR, it got stuck in 1st gear.” When the team pulled the transmission apart they discovered a bent shift fork. “I'm hoping for a good result now that we have that all straightened out.”
